Peruvian agro-industrial company Ocho Sur donates a Starlink satellite internet system to a native Amazonian community in Ucayali, Peru

PUCALLPA, UCAYALI, PERU, May 31, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility policy, Ocho Sur — a Peruvian agro-industrial group dedicated to the sustainable production of palm oil products in the Ucayali region — donated a high-speed satellite internet system to the Kokama Unida Ecológica de Curimaná native community.

The donated technology, known as Starlink, is a satellite internet system that uses a constellation of low-Earth orbit satellites to create a global network capable of reaching virtually any location in the world. The system is powered entirely by solar panels and a photovoltaic setup, ensuring sustainable, off-grid operation.

"Starlink is an innovative technology that offers high-speed, low-latency internet connectivity — especially valuable in areas with little or no traditional coverage. The service will be available free of charge 24 hours a day to the local population, with all costs covered by the company," said Ulises Saldaña, Community Relations Manager at Ocho Sur, who oversaw the handover of the donation.

Saldaña added that the internet system will generate significant benefits for the indigenous population by connecting them to the world and enabling meaningful improvements in access to education, employment, training, and telemedicine, among other services.

The official ceremony took place during the inauguration of the community's new communal hall, named "Luis Antonio Pacaya Ricopa" in honor of the community's late founder. The facility was built by community members with the collaboration of Ocho Sur, and was attended by the founder's widow, Betty Ana Silva Vda. de Pacaya.

Amelia Pacaya Ricopa, chief of the Kokama native community, accompanied by her board of directors, received and expressed gratitude for the donation, which included a Smart TV and a complete photovoltaic system — all installed in the newly inaugurated communal hall.

With the support of Ocho Sur, a neighboring private company that has always collaborated with our people, we have completed our communal house and now have access to modern internet connectivity for the benefit of our entire community," said community leader Amelia Pacaya.
The Kokama native community manages a territory of approximately 1,600 hectares, currently in the process of formal land titling. In addition to forest conservation, community members engage in agriculture, cultivating cacao, plantain, cassava, corn, and 130 hectares of oil palm.
